General Guidelines for Writing Constructed Response Items
(CRQs)
1. For some desired outcomes CRQs provide a more valid measure of achievement, e.g. when students are asked to give reasons, explain etc.
— 2. Quality
of CRQ depends on the ability of scorers to assign scores constantly and
reliably
3. Essential
that the scoring guide is developed alongside the CRQ item.
— 4. CRQs
usually ask students for a numerical result, provide a short explanation or
description in one or two phrases or sentences.
