General Guidelines for Writing Constructed Response Items (CRQs)





1For some desired outcomes CRQs provide a more valid measure of achievement, e.g. when students are asked to give reasons, explain etc.

2. Quality of CRQ depends on the ability of scorers to assign scores constantly and reliably

3.   Essential that the scoring guide is developed alongside the CRQ item.

4. CRQs usually ask students for a numerical result, provide a short explanation or description in one or two phrases or sentences.
